Keep those three decisions separate when markings are included in a commercial paving project. It makes a repainting price more useful and prevents an unresolved design or surface question from being hidden inside “lines included.”
The product name identifies a coating, not the whole job
Traffic-marking products are not identified completely by their colour. The actual product code, current technical document, intended surface and proposed work matter. Do not assume two quotations naming white traffic paint specify the same material or conditions.
PPG's Zoneline product information is one manufacturer example: it identifies a coating type, recommended substrates and separate technical and safety documents. It does not identify the product offered for this property or prove that it is appropriate here.
The responsible marking party should explain the material in relation to the retained asphalt, new paving, concrete or existing coating it intends to mark. The name of a product is not evidence that those conditions were assessed. A marking scope and any preceding pavement preparation remain different work items even when one provider proposes both.
Touch-dry is not the same question as ready for traffic
An accessible manufacturer technical sheet dated 2020 gives separate touch and traffic drying entries and qualifies drying by conditions. It also treats surface preparation and limitations separately. That illustrates how much a short fast-drying claim leaves out; its old times and instructions are not a schedule for a Langley project.
For the actual work, connect the current product requirements and observed conditions to the provider's reopening decision. The closure plan may also depend on completion of paving, removal of work-zone controls, transitions and other unfinished tasks—not only whether the paint feels dry.
The existing phasing guide organizes temporary access and the responsible reopening decision. Do not replace it with a universal online drying time, and do not touch or test a fresh marking to decide whether the area can open.
The accepted layout is a separate instruction
Repainting whichever lines are still visible is not necessarily the agreed layout. Identify whether the scope is to refresh an accepted arrangement or implement a revised plan. The responsible parties must establish the applicable layout, signs, routes and any physical work; a product data sheet does not do that.
For a fictional example, an owner asks to repaint an existing symbol while another part of the project moves the walking route. A correctly identified paint cannot settle whether the symbol and route still belong in those positions. Resolve the actual arrangement before using it as the marking instruction. This is not a design, accessibility assessment or statement that an existing property is noncompliant.
Compare the price against the same work
One proposal might price only new paint over an identified retained layout. Another might include separately reviewed removal of obsolete markings, changes to the accepted layout and a staged return. The second is not automatically better; it describes a different purchase.
Use the commercial paving RFP checklist to keep marking quantities, accepted plan version, preparation, work limits and exclusions visible. Resolve who owns any unfinished layout or surface question. A safety data sheet explains a different subject from the technical sheet, and neither adds omitted marking removal, pavement repair or design work to a quotation.
This comparison supplies no paint formulation, application equipment, thickness, reflective-bead recipe, removal method, marking dimension or universal product recommendation. Unknown existing coatings and preparation hazards belong with the responsible review, not an owner's test patch.
Give the first enquiry a clear purpose
State whether markings are part of a wider paving project, a repaint of an accepted layout or a proposed arrangement still needing review. Share the property's operating constraints and the unresolved question through the existing enquiry route. Do not send confidential tenant or financial records to explain a simple scope question.
Confirm the responding provider's actual paving, marking, design and coordination roles, price and availability. This guide does not establish a line-marking service, compliance result, traffic-control plan or guaranteed closure window. No fresh paint, product label or enquiry itself proves the full lot is ready to use.
Sources and limits
The manufacturer product page and complete 2020 technical sheet were read on 24 October 2026. The older sheet is a document-structure example, not a current Canadian specification or adoption of its timings, temperatures, chemical instructions or warranty language. Obtain the current local documents for the actual proposed product. The original fictional comparisons describe decisions, not customer jobs, measured savings or promised commercial outcomes.
